On the 17th of November this year, small business ‘Made 4U’ held a Tartan Wreath Making Workshop in The Hive, which marked the shop’s very first pre booked event! People from all around booked early for the workshop which had respective time slots of 10AM, 12.30AM, and 3PM. Despite having multiple sessions to fill, each one had a great turn out with engaged groups ready to make their very own Christmas centre pieces.

Liz Summers, Made 4U’s owner, sources her tartan material through donations from JH Kilt Hire in Grangemouth. The tartan material Liz gets are offcuts that were originally intended to be disposed, which ensures that no bit is put to waste in the crafting process. Many of the tartan types available to those at the workshop varied in origin. One of the offcuts was based on the oldest tartan in Scotland (the original material being dated circa 1500 – 1600AD after retrieval from a bog in the 1980’s). With the vast selection of tartan offcuts to choose from, it brought a personalised charm to the workshop as no two wreaths would look the same when made!

Liz commented on the shop being  “a nice and relaxed space”, adding on that  “with the Christmas stock coming in it made it feel more festive”. While talking to Liz about her favourite aspect in running the workshop, she answered with “bringing people together to achieve something they maybe didn’t think they could do”. She expanded on this further by also stating “It helps crafters to network with each other too”. At The Hive, we’ve always strived to foster a strong community of small businesses within central Scotland, so we fully support Liz and Made 4U in carrying out workshops and bringing people together in the name of crafts!

Overall, its safe to say that the Wreath Making Shop was a great success! It catered groups to socialise and get to know each other, and by the end of their sessions they got to go home with their very own handmade wreath! Made4U have plenty of  their own stock in the shop, from tartan keychains, scrunchies, doorstops and more!

From the proceeds on all tartan products and workshops, Liz donates 10% of them to Strathcarron Hospice. Please click the link here to learn more about their services.
